Charles Capps: SeedTime and Harvest

By Charles Capps

The first chapter of Genesis contains what I call the law of Genesis. If you get a good understanding of this law, it will help you understand God's ways.

The law of seedtime and harvest is God's method. "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good." (Genesis 1:11-12)

After the flood, God made a promise to Noah when he had offered burnt offerings to the Lord. "And the Lord smelled a sweet saviour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake...While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." (Genesis 8:21-22) This is God's commitment concerning our planet, and it will be that way as long as Earth is in existence.

Law of the Seed

The law of Genesis is one of God's fixed laws, which governs the seed. Everything produces after its kind, and the ability of the seed is in itself even in the natural realm.

For instance, the seed of strife is in strife itself. If you get into strife with someone, it will create more strife. Yet, if you speak kindness and love, it will produce the same. The harvest is resident in the seed itself even before you choose to plant it.

Faith-filled words produce faith. Fear-filled words produce more fear. The heart (human spirit) responds to the words (seeds) planted in the heart. Jesus in His own words reveals how the Kingdom of God works: "The sower soweth the word...So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come." (Mark 4:14, 26-29)

These verses reveal that God furnishes the good seeds, but we must choose to plant them and be patient for the harvest.

Then in Luke 17:6, Jesus reveals who will plant and how to plant. "...If you had faith even like a...seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, Be pulled up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you." (The Amplified Bible)

The implications are clear. If you don't have faith as a seed, you won't plant it by saying. But if you have faith as a seed, you will plant the Word of God in your heart, and it will produce after its kind.

Mark 4:15-20 reveals that the heart of man is the soil where the seed is planted. When you speak it, that seed becomes planted in your heart. There it begins to grow and produce after its kind.

"For the earth (the heart of man) bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear." (Mark 4:28) Many give up before harvest time. They give up during the growth process. Then some try to reap the blade and, therefore, destroy the harvest.

In Mark 11:23, Jesus tells us the principle of the law of faith. Whosoever shall say, "...believe," and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe what he is saying will come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he says. (Paraphrased) That is the way the God-kind of faith works.

The Seed is a Necessity

There are some who think it will happen just because they say it. It's true that saying it is involved in planting it, but it won't necessarily work just because you say it. But saying it is involved in working God's law. A farmer won't necessarily have a harvest just because he plants. He must also keep the weeds from choking what he has planted.

But you can be certain, he will never have a harvest if he doesn't plant.

It is the life in the seed which causes a multiplication of the very thing planted. The life of the harvest is in the promise itself. The life God breathed into His Word is God's DNA.

God's Word is incorruptible seed. If you plant it properly in good ground, it will produce a harvest every time. But what you do or don't do with the seed can cause a production failure.

Sow It the Way God Said It

Concerning circumstances of life, we have been taught that we should "say it like
it is." But that is not God's method. God's method is to call things that are
not (manifest) as though they are. (I Corinthians 1:27-28; Romans 4:17)

If your wants are in line with the Word of God, then say it the way you want it. Say what God said about you, not what you are experiencing at the present. Go to the Word of God, find the promise, and plant that seed. You are sowing for a good harvest. Regardless of lack or other problems in your life, use God's Word and speak abundance and peace. This is God's method. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are." (I Corinthians 1:27-28)

Good Seeds Produce a Harvest

Any farmer knows that you can't plant weed seed and reap a harvest of wheat. The soil was not designed to decide what will be produced. The seed alone determines what will be produced. God designed the soil to react to the demands of the seed that is planted, and it will bring forth an exact duplication of its kind.

There will be no harvest without planting. The law of Genesis reveals that everything produces after its own kind. But the very thing which God has designed to cause us to be victorious in life can also work in reverse, if we don't follow the instruction of God's Word.

If you are not happy with your harvest, check up on the seed you've been sowing.

The Parable of the Seed

The following prophecy came forth in one of our meetings:

"When the seed is sown in the earth, before the sun can rise and set, the seed has demanded that your need be met. The heart will respond without regret, but the process has only begun, and it is not revealed yet; but have confidence and respect for the seed, for it has given its life for what you need. It will work night and day, giving substance to what you say. It will assemble the information piece-by- piece and know the exact time for its release. So set a watch on what you speak and how you pray, for a time of release comes every day. Take heed to the words God has spoken and obey. For you see, the fruit is being fashioned each day. The process continues until the harvest is perfected in this very way. For day-after-day the seed demands, and the earth does obey. But be careful not to tamper with the seed, for if you do, you will come up with a weed. But if you will encourage it with the water of the Word, it will produce exactly the way you have heard."

Hebrews 11:3 reveals that the worlds were framed by the Word of God. Whether you realize it or not, you are framing your world daily with your words, and they produce after their kind.
